SCA was recently named a Green Master by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council for the company’s efforts to be a more sustainable company. This is the first year SCA has applied for this award, competing with 200 other businesses and coming in among the top 20%.
The council is designed to bring businesses together and provide resources for them on their path toward being more sustainable. The award itself serves as a benchmark for companies to see how they rank among their peers. The judges examine energy use, water conservation, waste reduction, supply chain and employee and community engagement.
Carrie Schuster, Marketing Manager, Sustainability and Hygiene, SCA AfH North America, and Stephanie Duxbury-Weir, Environmental and Risk Manager, SCA GHS Tissue North America, spearheaded the application, and Schuster participated in receiving the award at a ceremony and conference in Onalaska, Wisconsin in December 2016 with other sustainability leaders in the state.
"Earning the Green Masters Award is in alignment with our global sustainability initiatives to create value for people and nature,” says Carrie, “The award further challenges us to continue to achieve our sustainability goals and targets to reduce our impact on the environment, as well as respecting our local business partners and community where we live."
Also involved in the project, and attended the event, was Steve Brunelli, Sustainability Consultant and UW-Oshkosh Graduate Student who assisted with the project.
