Mercer International Inc. reported results for the 2Q ended June 30, 2017. For the 2Q 2017, net loss was $2.1 million, compared to a net loss of $4.2 million in the comparative quarter. In the prior quarter, net income was $9.7 million.
Total revenues for the three months ended June 30, 2017 increased by approximately 30% to $283.2 million from $218.1 million in the same quarter of 2016 primarily due to 24% higher pulp revenues and the inclusion of $17.3 million of revenues from its wood products segment.
In the 2Q 2017, operating income increased by approximately 10% to $18.5 million from $16.8 million in the same quarter of 2016 primarily due to higher pulp sales realizations, partially offset by higher maintenance costs at our pulp mills.

Mercer's total revenues for the first half of 2017 increased by approximately 11% to $526 million from $472 million in the first half of 2016 primarily due to higher pulp revenues and $17.3 million of wood products revenue.
In the first half of 2017, operating income increased by approximately 33% to $59.5 million from $44.9 million in the same period of 2016 primarily due to higher pulp sales realizations.
