US Department of Commerce (DOC) has announced affirmative preliminary antidumping (AD) tariffs on imports of certain uncoated paper from Australia, Brazil, China, Indonesia and Portugal. According to Euwid, preliminary AD duties on uncoated paper range between 29.5% for Portuguese and 193.3% for Chinese importers.

The investigation was launched in February 2015 upon request of the USW union and US paper manufacturers Domtar, Finch Paper, Packaging Corporation of America and Glatfelter. The final determinations are expected in January and February 2016.

The antidumping tariffs cover imports of all uncoated paper in sheets, weighing more than 40 but less than 150 g/m² .

Portuguese uncoated paper manufacturer Portucel Soporcel has already reacted to the announcement, saying that it disagrees with DOC calculations.  According to Portucel Soporcel, its average prices in the US are up to 17% above the benchmark for the US market.
