The demand for sanitary and hygienic paper products as well as paper packaging in Russia is steadily growing with a simultaneous decline of demand for newsprint, according to some leading Russian paper producers and local media reports.

According to analysts, there is a trend towards the re-profiling of specialized enterprises in paper sector of Russia, as manufacturers of printed paper are transferring capacities to some growing product segments.

An example of this is Ilim Group, a leading paper and cardboard producer, which corrugated enterprises, located in the Leningrad and Moscow regions, increased the production of corrugated cardboard by 9% in 2021 producing a record 282 million square meters.

As operational director of Ilim’s packaging business Pavel Alekseev said in an interview with SPBVedomosti business paper the demand for corrugated products in 2022 will increase by 4 - 5%.

According to him, the main drivers for a further development of the market will be the segment of e-commerce, a switch to environmental friendliness and conscious consumption.
