New investment Brazil’s Ibema has unveiled plans to build a new bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) production facility in Turvo, in the country’s state of Paraná. As part of the potential project, the company is currently preparing a feasibility study.

The new BCTMP mill will meet the current demand for mechanical pulp from both companies, in addition to serving as a support for future expansion of paperboard production,” the business said in a statement.

“At an advanced stage of analysis, the project includes a long-term supply contract with Suzano which owns 49% of the company,” according to the statement.

“We estimate that, if implemented, this initiative will add up to 160 thousand tons per year to our mechanical pulp production capacity,” said Nilton Saraiva, the chief executive of Ibema.
