Edson, a ProMach brand, is debuting its new KDF Stack Prep System, a robotic cell that automates the infeed area of a case packer, in booth N-5348 at PACK EXPO 2022, October 23-26, at McCormick Place in Chicago.
Edson is a manufacturer of case and tray packing solutions for the converted paper, diaper, and nonwoven markets.
After stacks are loaded onto the case packer’s infeed conveyors, the KDF (knocked down flat) Stack Prep System prepares the cases by cutting bands and removing dunnage and other cardboard or paper materials used during transportation. The stacks are then straightened, squared, and presented to the case packer.
The KDF Stack Prep System was developed in response to customers looking to integrate automation into more aspects of packaging. Automating the stack prep process frees up an operator to other areas of production where their skills can be put to better use, especially amid industry-wide staffing shortages.
An automated system is also more accurate, efficient, and repeatable. Removing the correct amount of dunnage, finding all the bands and papers to take out of the stack, and orienting cases is difficult when done manually. The system also scans barcodes to verify that the correct stack has been loaded into the machine. This level of automation takes human error out of the equation.
The KDF Stack Prep System is the first of its kind in the paper packaging industry. It pairs well with Edson’s line of case packers and additional machinery, but its applications are not limited to paper. Each solution can be customized to fit the needs of the customer, case packer, and industry.
