Another milestone has been passed in that PulpEye no. 80 has been sold to Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s specialty paper mill in Billingsfors in Sweden. It is a successful and niche specialty paper mill with large customers in, among other things, steel and furniture manufacturing. With the help of PulpEye, measurement of kappa number, shives, dots and fibre length will take place online.
Billingsfors is one of Ahlstrom-Munksjö’s speciality paper mills focused on thin unbleached special paper, electrotechnical paper and Spantex; paper qualities for foiling furniture and laminate floors. The mill produces unbleached short and long fibre pulps with great demands on high and consistent quality, not least in terms of pulp purity. Billingsfors has an annual capacity of 70,000 tonnes of specialty paper.
“We are very happy that Billingsfors chose our solution for online measurement of important pulp properties such as kappa number, fibre and shives,” says Öjvind Sundvall, CEO PulpEye. “The fact that it is also our eightieth PulpEye delivery in total makes it even more fun. An important part of the delivery is DotEye, our module for reliable and continuous measurement of dots and other impurities, which will ensure that the stock fed to the paper machine is of the highest purity.”
“Our thin specialty papers are used in a range of applications where high demands are placed on the purity of the paper,” says Jonas Lindquist, mill manager for Ahlstrom-Munksjö Billingsfors. “Therefore it is important, among other things, to be able to measure the purity of the produced pulp as early as possible in the process. We have extensive washing equipment and with the help of continuous analysis results from PulpEye, it becomes easier and faster for us to ensure the purity and quality of the pulp.”
A point in this context is that the fiftieth delivery of PulpEye took place to another mill within Ahlström-Munksjö, namely to the pulp mill in Aspa in Sweden.
