Toscotec is pleased to announce the publication of its first Sustainability Report as the latest integration of its long-standing commitment to sustainability, which dates back to 2005 with the award of its first environmental certification. The issuance of a Sustainability Report in accordance with the GRI standards (Global Reporting Initiative) comes as a strong signal of continuity on the company’s journey of contributing to a more sustainable future for the paper industry.

Corporate Sustainability Strategy

Toscotec’s corporate sustainability strategy is executed through the award and constant renewal of key, internationally recognized certifications. Toscotec’s environmental management system is certified to ISO 14001 since 2005, and the company is the only tissue machinery manufacturer in Italy to participate in the European Union’s Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), a first-class benchmark for corporate environmental management. The latest addition to this series has been the achievement of the ISO 50001 certification for its energy management system in 2024.

Additionally, Toscotec also has a rigorous occupational safety management system certified to the ISO 45001 standard, which includes fundamental guidelines and targets designed to improve the health and safety of its personnel.

As a result, this whole architecture attests to a comprehensive, efficient, and fully integrated HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) management system.

Strong Performances

In the reporting year of 2024, Toscotec has consumed 100% electricity generated from renewable sources at its manufacturing sites. Furthermore, through the continuous expansion of its solar photovoltaic system across 15 years, it has reached close to 260 MWh of self-generated renewable energy.

As part of its sustainability strategy, Toscotec also delivers technological solutions that support customers in achieving their environmental goals. In the reporting period, it has invested 60% of its R&D budget in carbon-free technology that use alternative fuels such as hydrogen and biogas, as well as green electricity. In this space in 2024, Toscotec has realized the first tissue machine in the world that operates on 100% renewable energy.

Andrea Marzaro, Chief Operating Officer, COO at Toscotec, says, “This sustainability report, which is based on the GRI, an internationally recognized reporting standard, represents a guideline that offers us the opportunity to take stock of the situation and integrate further steps for continuous improvement. We are well aware of the importance of these actions and, consequently, we start from our own organization moving then to offer our strong commitment to the market through first-class sustainable technology.”
