The demand for green paper technologies is steadily growing in China, which leads to the massive purchases of modern machinery and equipment for the needs of local pulp and paper mills, according to recent statements, made by some leading Chinese state officials and local media reports.
So far, a number of global equipment producers have said about the increase of the number of orders from the Chinese pulp and paper producers. One of them is Valmet.
According to Finnish Kauppalehti business paper, citing on Pasi Laine, Valmet’s CEO, in 2020, about 13 percent of Valmet's annual turnover came from the Chinese market. According to Laine, last year, the total amount of orders from China reached 885 million euros, which is 24 percent of the company's total orders. According to him, 2020 was an exceptional year for the company.
The development of logistics and express delivery in China is driving demand for pulp and paper products in the Chinese market. Meanwhile, as China strives for sustainable development, the optimization of the industrial and energy structure, as well as smart manufacturing and environmental modernization are becoming an inevitable choice for the country's paper industry, stimulating the demand for better and cleaner technologies in this area.
There is a growing demand for recyclable and environmentally friendly packaging material in China, as the country is actively building pulp production lines equipped with more advanced technologies to integrate the industry in an energy efficient way.
According to calculations provided to Kauppalehti by AFRY Management Consulting director Tomi Amberla, the development of the pulp sector in China will mean an increase in production by 22 million
tons, which will mark significant growth worldwide. The current global demand for pulp is around 70 million tonnes.
