Tissue-making is a dynamic process with many possibilities for adjustment and influence in a complex production plant. A high level of automation and production monitoring makes it possible to increase the efficiency of the process. The German company emtec Electronic comes along with an innovative solution for the wet-end to acquire constantly real-time information about zeta potential, conductivity, pH value and temperature.

Emtec Electronic, the manufacturer of innovative measuring devices for the paper industry, will be supporting to shape the future of tissue at Tissue World in Düsseldorf from April 8 to 10. This is the motto of this year´s largest tissue event in Germany. Today´s requirements such as sustainability, resource efficiency and cost savings are strong competitive factors that can be met through process automation and continuous production monitoring.

Autonomous measuring devices that are directly connected to the paper machine, take regular and independent measurements and constantly transfer this data to the process control system or a globally accessible server do indeed offer several advantages for the industry: greater resilience in the long term and more competitive production.

The emtec FPO Fiber Potential Analyzer Online enables real-time risk monitoring and management as well as remote access through automatic data transmission. The worker gets empowered by saving working time, but at the same time has all necessary data to intervene immediately in the process, if it is running well or quality issues occur. This can significantly reduce the consumption of resources and energy.

The online measuring device is very low-maintenance and can be installed at various points at the paper machine via two connections, through which samples are taken alternately (e.g. before and after dosing points for additives). It is able to perform up to six measurements per hour, with four measurements per hour as standard depending on the process settings. The measuring principle of the emtec FPO is identical to that of the laboratory instrument (FPA Fiber Potential Analyzer), but it´s automatic measurements and transfer of process-relevant data support the pulp and paper industry on its way to Papermaking 4.0 through to Industry 5.0.

Not only for papermakers, but also for chemical suppliers the online instrument offers a number of advantages: the constant monitoring of process values over a long period of time, and the immediate availability of measurement data at any location worldwide enable fast networking and data-based troubleshooting.

The two well-known laboratory measuring devices CAS Charge Analyzing System for measuring particle charge, and the lab-equivalent of the emtec FPO – the FPA Fiber Potential Analyzer will also be presented at Tissue World Düsseldorf. These compact laboratory devices offer a decisive advantage for chemical suppliers in particular: they can be easily transported in a carry-on luggage and are ready for use very quickly on site.

In addition, emtec Electronic is showcasing the softness measuring device TSA Tactile Sensation Analyzer in a new design. Compared to its predecessor model, better known as the Tissue Softness Analyzer, the new device has been equipped with a touchscreen. Beside the fiber softness, the device measures the surface smoothness and flexibility of base paper and finished products.

Visitors to Tissue World Düsseldorf are invited to meet emtec experts Stefan Ruebesam and Philipp Sievers at the emtec stand E29 to take a closer look at the latest developments, have them demonstrated, ask their questions and discuss
