Sales decrease but operating result up Finland’s Metsä Group has reported sales of some €6.11 billion for the January-December 2023 period, down from €6.98 billion in the preceding year. At the same time, the company’s operating result for last year stood at €498 million, an increase from €488 million reported for 2022.
“In January–March 2024, Metsä Group’s comparable operating result is expected to improve from October–December 2023,” the Finnish business said in a statement.
“In 2023, economic activity was low, and growth was weak. This was clearly reflected in Metsä Group’s business operations and overall result. The prices of capital goods, which increased amid the strong growth experienced in 2021 and 2022, also contributed to weaker results. However, the long-term outlook for Metsä Group’s products remains good,” Ilkka Hämälä, the firm’s CEO and president, commented.
