Vermont facility closed US business Soundview Vermont Holdings LLC, a subsidiary of Marcal Paper which is widely known by the name of Putney Paper, has shut down its operations in Putney, in the state of Vermont.
The closure of the paper mill together with its converting plant means that some 127 jobs will be scrapped, local industry magazine American Recycler reported.
“Despite our best efforts to sustain operations at this historic paper mill, we had no choice but to shut down operations,” Rob Baron, the president of Soundview Vermont, was quoted in a statement.
“The high cost of energy in the region has made it unaffordable to keep our doors open. Our top priority moving forward will be supporting our incredible employees and their families throughout this difficult transition,” according to the company’s president.
