The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) International and the International Forestry Students' Association (IFSA) today signed a five-year partnership agreement to nurture the next generation of global forest stewards.
Under the auspices of the agreement, FSC and IFSA collaboration represents a major step towards integrating young voices into the global forestry dialogue. It signifies the rise of a new generation of leaders committed to sustainable forest management and environmental stewardship.
“Empowering young leaders is crucial for the future of sustainable forestry,” said Kim Carstensen, FSC International Director General. “Their innovative ideas and fresh perspectives are essential for developing long-term strategies. This partnership with IFSA marks a significant step in integrating youth voices into global forest management”.
Running from 2024 to 2029, FSC will invite IFSA to apply for organizational membership, waiving its fees for up to five years. The partnership will prioritize diversity, equity, and benefit-sharing as fundamental aspects of forest stewardship, promoting inclusive and forward-thinking approaches.
Isabelle Claire, IFSA President said, “FSC International’s new partnership with IFSA is a trailblazer for youth engagement in the forest certification industry. We are committed to engaging the next generation of leaders in FSC’s sustainable forestry efforts.”
