Committed to sustainability, development, and the safety of the communities where it operates, Klabin continuously invests in fire prevention. To address this issue, the Company relies on a structure equipped with an advanced system for monitoring its forests, teams trained for the rapid containment of incidents, and the dissemination of information to raise awareness among the population about the risks and show that prevention is the best approach.
The monitoring work has a control room and 18 cameras, which capture real-time images 24 hours a day, with a range of up to 40 kilometers. The cameras are installed in 60- and 65-meter-high towers, which allows for a long range of operation. The system works in a practical and efficient manner, with the quick identification of possible fire outbreaks. As soon as the incident is identified, a team is promptly sent to the location. "With the established procedure, we help the community combat forest fires not only on Company properties, but also in nearby areas, either with the support of our own teams or as a support to the Fire Department and the Civil Defense," emphasized Carlos Cesar Santos, coordinator of Forest Property Protection at Klabin.
Currently, about 670 employees, trained to operate in fire prevention and control in the region, work directly in Klabin's forest monitoring system. The structure features an aircraft, with the capacity to carry 450 liters of water, five trucks similar to those of the Fire Department, and 16 water trucks, always ready for emergency calls.
In line with the initiatives to raise awareness among the community on fire prevention, Klabin is a signatory to the "United in the prevention of forest fires - We are guardians of the forest" campaign, recently launched by the Paraná Association of Forest-Based Companies (APRE), with the purpose of strengthening the importance of collective actions for forest conservation.
