The Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI)'s Corrugated Sector and the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (FEFCO) have agreed to work closely on a programme to promote the interests of the Corrugated Packaging Industry throughout the European Union.
The move towards greater co-operation between the two organisations is designed to ensure that a united front is presented in the growing area of promotion and communications. CPI believes that the partnership will help strengthen the UK case and increase the influence it has on decisions taken in places such as Frankfurt or Barcelona, that affect corrugated manufacturing plants in the UK.
While CPI will pool resources with FEFCO, and seek to exchange best practice within the programme of communication to a wider pan-European audience, CPI Director of Packaging Affairs, Andy Barnetson, was at pains to point out that the emphasis on closer links will always allow CPI to retain its independent voice on national issues.
He said: “We have to adapt and change to meet a challenging political climate. The aim of collaborating more closely with FEFCO is to speak, where appropriate, with one voice in mainland Europe on issues that affect the UK sector”.
Over the coming months a high profile promotional initiative, including a major European advertising campaign (www.corrugated-ofcourse.eu/mr-corrugated) will be rolled out.
CPI and FEFCO hope that by collaborating on key issues they can also influence policy makers in Brussels.
