National Risk Assessments (NRAs) have recently been approved by FSC International for Belgium and Denmark. NRAs provide the risk designations to be used by organizations to source Controlled Wood in these countries, following the FSC Controlled Wood Chain of Custody Standard FSC-STD-40-005 V2-1.
The Belgian NRA was conducted for all forest types across the whole country and divided according to the country’s Flemish, Walloon and Brussels regions. The Assessment found low risk for all five Controlled Wood categories in all regions, except for category 4 (conversion) for the Flemish region. Taking a precautionary approach, the working group assessed conflicting data on forest-cover change in that region and decided that the relevant indicator for this category had not been met.
The NRA for Denmark also evaluated all forest types for the whole country, but not for Greenland. The Assessment was made for all Controlled Wood categories except for category 3. The Assessment designated low risk for these for whole area that was assessed.
