Rexcell Tissue & Airlaid started up PM1 after a complete rebuild of the drying section supplied by Toscotec at its Skåpafors mill in Sweden. With this successful project, Rexcell achieved the targets of substantially bringing down PM1’s thermal energy consumption through the use of energy-efficient drying technology and increase the machine’s production capacity.

Customized solution for Energy Saving
Toscotec’s customized solution for Rexcell has delivered considerable gas consumption reductions and a significant increase in machine run-ability.
The rebuild has included a press section upgrade, the installation of a TT SYD Steel Yankee Dryer with new steam and condensate system, and high efficiency TT Hoods where the air system burners are specifically designed and tested for different fuels (LPG and biomethane). This allows great flexibility and optionability of energy sources with a view to the energy transition.
For optimal energy efficiency, Toscotec also supplied the Burner Management System, which optimizes combustion efficiency through a precise control of the combustion air, and TT Drying Equilibrium, a reliable system that automatically regulates the air balance in the hoods, thereby ensuring maximum drying efficiency, faster basis weight changes, and a production increase.

Lars Andersson, CEO at Duni Rexcell, comments, “The project was successful in reducing our carbon footprint. This is an important part of our medium-term efforts toward our 2030 Net Zero target. Toscotec’s energy efficient technology plays an important role in our mitigation commitments.”

Luca Carmignani, Project Manager at Toscotec, says, “The cooperation with Rexcell team has been very effective throughout the entire project and we successfully achieved our shared target on schedule. Since start-up, PM1’s operation has been stable, and we have already achieved energy savings.”
